Bread is the Devil

Fat to Skinny Fast and EasyStop mindlessly inhaling the breadbasket and stop shoveling in the M&M'S – Bread is the Devil is the solution to all of our diet saboteurs.

Nutritionist Heather Bauer can count on the fingers of one hand the number of her clients who don't already know what they should eat to lose weight. So why can't they (and their best friend and their neighbor) lose weight? Because Bread is the Devil! Yes, that's Bauer's shorthand for the inevitable, demonic pull that certain bad habits exert on people who try to change their eating routines to drop the pounds. Many of us have been there: You had a sensible, healthy breakfast, high in protein with complex carbs. Ditto for lunch—soup and a salad with a warm rush of accomplishment and self control for dessert. But now it's dinnertime and you're out with friends: enter a large basket of warm, sliced crusty sourdough bread with a little tub of chive butter. Suddenly you're in the seventh circle of hell—the one reserved for gluttons. Bread's not your devil? How about ice cream or chips or that big slab of butter cream frosted birthday cake?

Bread Is the Devil will help you fight those hellish cravings that stop you from losing the weight you want. Bread is the Devil is divine intervention for even the most devilish dieters.

The Thin Commandments Diet

The Thin Commandments BookDr. Stephen Gullo, is a bestselling author and has received world acclaim for his successful and groundbreaking approach to weight control. In his new book, The Thin Commandments Diet, he shares his unique weight-loss program that has a proven success rate several times higher than the national average. His groundbreaking approach has helped patients lose more than 100 pounds, and maintain that weight loss for more than five years. In his book, Gullo frequently recommends GG Bran Crispbread as an integral part of his diet plan. The following excerpts from The "Thin Commandments Diet" prove how effective GG Bran Crispbread can be to any diet.

Here are the excerpts:

Eat THE Appetite Control Cracker. One cracker has a special place in my armament of antihunger weapons. I have seen more people abuse crackers than be helped by them, particularly the thin, salty, crispy ones. Most have too many carbohydrates and too little fiber. There is only one notable exception-the GG Scandinavian Bran Crispbread."

"Only 16 calories and 3 grams of carbohydrates, but a generous 3 grams of fiber. And when you subtract the three grams of fiber from the 3 grams of carbohydrates, you get low net carbs! It's the ultimate "no carb-carb". Two or three of these crackers kill the appetite for hours with negligible calories, even if you eat several extra throughout the day."

"All of my clients who use them daily say they are rarely hungry. Even if these crackers aren't available at your local health food store, I strongly recommend that you order them online. They make great sandwiches with rich fiber, and you can carry them everywhere, so hunger will never again be part of your weight control. And you can search every health food store in America and not find a cracker this thick and crunchy and this low in calories and carbs."

"My winners carry it everywhere in their briefcases or pocketbooks for snacks or mini-meals. Turn it into a pizza with fat-free tomato sauce and fat-free shredded mozzarella cheese; or a dessert with fat-free cream cheese topped with jam or apple-butter!"

"GG Bran Crispbread serves the same purpose as bread, give crunch without the calories, provides more fiber and volume than whole grain bread, and, for people who have a history of abusing bread products, they avoid the association of bread with meals."

4 Guilt-Free Treats

By Joanne Eglash
Reprinted from eDiets

Ever since my mother described Brussels sprouts as "good and good for you," I've been a skeptic when it comes to health and diet food claims. And, I still hate Brussels sprouts.

However, in the role of intrepid food journalist, I bravely ventured forth up and down the health and diet food aisles of the grocery stores, determined to scout out products that lived up to such claims as "low in calories and carbs but big in rich, creamy taste."

The bad news: there are a lot of foods that resemble sawdust in flavor and texture. The good news: there are a select few that taste so blissful that you'll keep checking the nutrition label to make sure that they're really low in calories and carbs! And, now, (drum-roll please) Joanne's Tasteful Taste Buds Trophy goes to:

· GG Bran Crispbread. Big in fiber and taste, low in calories and carbs. These crunchy, munchy, just-sweet-enough crackers are perfect answer to those cravings for croutons on your salad or saltines with your soup -- and about a million times healthier! I also like them dunked in Walden Farms chocolate dip and frozen. They taste like chocolate-covered graham crackers, but they're guilt-free. One thick slice of Crispbread contains just 16 calories, but it gives you 3 grams of fiber. For details on where to buy, go to

· Walden Farms Calorie Free Chocolate Dip and Marshmallow Dip. Sugar-free, carb-free, calorie-free, but definitely not free of good taste. Try dunking some fresh fruit into one of the dips (two tablespoons equals one serving, so you may want to measure out a serving. Remember, the FDA guidelines say that if a product contains fewer than 5 calories per serving, it can be labeled as "calorie-free"). Available at health food stores and online in various low-carb shops

· No Pudge Fudge bars. The name says it all. Too cutesy for you? Then, just try a taste and you'll succumb to the flavor. These enormous, chocolatey ice cream bars contain only 60 calories and give you 6 grams of fiber, 5 grams of protein and low grams of fat and sugar! I have only one complaint: my local store keeps running out of them.

· Jello-O Sugar-Free, Reduced-Calorie Pudding Snacks. I just happened to notice these in the grocery store refrigerator section, right next to the temptingly fattening containers of full-fat, sugary puddings. Since they contain no sugar, with just 60 calories per cup of swirled chocolate and vanilla pudding, this snack sounded as if it would taste sort of, well, gluey. I happily confess that my prediction was wrong! They're creamy, rich, amazingly satisfying and good enough for me to volunteer to be the next Jello-O spokeswoman (as long as I get free pudding with my paycheck)!

GG Bran Crispbread: The Diabetic, Low-Glycemic Snack That's Big on Taste, not on Calories and Carbs!

By Joanne Eglash

Carb lovers who are trying to follow a low-glycemic lifestyle often complain that they can't exist without their daily bread. If you fit into this category or are diabetic, it's time to bite into the satisfying crispbread known by fans as "GG."

What's so special about GG Bran Crispbread?

Snack on this good news: these delightfully crunchy, thick wafers have only 16 calories and 3 grams of good-for-you fiber. Plus, they're sugar-free. The result is what I call a new age for bread: low on the glycemic index (great news for dieters and those who are diabetic), high in taste value, and low in both calories AND carbs.
I have been a health, diet, and food journalist and researcher for more than 15 years, and I currently am in graduate school studying for my M.S. degree in holistic nutrition. Therefore, I know just how difficult it is to find high quality foods that pass the taste test AND the low-glycemic test. That's why I was so eager to try GG Bran Crispbread when a friend mentioned this product to me. I was skeptical: how could a food that was low-sodium, low-calorie, low-carb, and high in fiber actually taste satisfying? One bite, and I became a GG believer! It's the special baking process (shhhh, I can't reveal the secret recipe, but trust me: it works), combined with the attention paid to quality ingredients, that make this product so special.

What are variations on plain GG Bran Crispbread?

I'm glad you asked that question. Here are my secret weapons in the battle to create satisfying snacks that are low on the glycemic index and high in taste:
Dunk it! Prepare a cup of low-calorie, sugar-free hot chocolate. Dip in plain GG Crispbreads, and savor the flavor. If you're a cinnamon fan (I am), try dunking plain GG Crispbreads into this mixture with a dash of cinnamon added.
Microwave it! Slice low-fat or fat-free cheese on the top of a few Crispbread (I like Monterey Jack cheese best for this purpose). Microwave until the cheese melts. Delicious served with sugar-free applesauce mixed with a dash of cinnamon and Equal.
Sweeten it! Drizzle sugar-free maple syrup over the top of GG Crispbread, and enjoy with a cup of hot tea or coffee.
Turn it into cereal! You say you miss your morning cereal? Not so fast, buckaroo: now you can have it. Crumble up several GG Crispbread. Place in a bowl, and cover with non-fat milk. Stir in a couple of packets of Equal and a dash of cinnamon, and you've got a breakfast with considerably more flavor and health value than the average breakfast cereal.

Using GG Bran Crackers for Weight Management

By Joanne Eglash

One of the biggest challenges for dieters revolves around the issue of appetite control. Let's look at a typical day in a dieter's life to understand the challenges that arise – and how to respond to lose weight successfully:

Breakfast: You wake up feeling hungry. Visions of chocolate-frosted jelly doughnuts and an extra-large cappuccino topped with whipped cream are dancing in your head. Yawning, you head into the kitchen and hunt around for something that will help you manage your weight, satisfy your appetite, AND taste good. I know how you feel: I've sought to manage my weight for more years than I want to admit. As a health, diet, and food journalist currently completing her M.S. degree in holistic nutrition, I've tasted many foods that claim to assist with weight loss yet taste great. My favorite option: GG Bran Crispbread.
Here's how it works for breakfast: while you're brewing up that cup of coffee or tea, you can quickly prepare several of these crunchy, thick wafers in a variety of ways. Top with unsweetened applesauce sprinkled with a dash of cinnamon and serve with an ounce of low-fat or fat-free cream cheese, for example. Sugar-free and containing three grams of fiber per wafer, these crackers are low-calorie, low-carb, and low on the glycemic index – a magical combination when it comes to helping you control your appetite and lose weight!

Snack time: Skip the usual trip to the vending machine or cookie jar. Candy bars, sugar cookies, and so forth that typically form the basis for snacks are NOT the answer to the question: "What should I use for snacks in order to lose weight?"
Instead, take GG Crispbreads to the office or have them in the front of your kitchen cupboard. That way, when the urge for a mid-morning, mid-afternoon, or evening snack strikes, you can safely indulge. Enjoy with a cup of herb tea or coffee sweetened with a packet of Equal or Splenda, and accompany with a fresh fruit such as an apple or pear. High in fiber, low in calories and carbs, this snack will satisfy your hunger without expanding your waistline!

Lunch time: A typical noon sandwich consists of two slices of white bread topped with mayonnaise and layers of ham, cheese, and perhaps a paltry piece of iceberg lettuce. Accompanied by a package of potato chips and a tall glass of lemonade or an extra-large cappuccino, the result is a meal high in simple carbohydrates, fat, and calories. You'll feel hungry again within an hour or two – and feel disappointed when you weigh yourself the next day.
Instead, try using GG Crispbread as the basis for a tasty sandwich. Top with a small amount of fat-free mustard, then add on a slice of fat-free cheese and fat-free turkey or chicken. Add lots of dark green lettuce (not pale iceberg, which is low in vitamins and minerals), sliced tomatoes, and sliced cucumbers and sprinkle with herbs. Delicious, nutritious, filling, low in calories and high in protein and fiber, this combination is a winner for weight loss and appetite control!

Dinner time: Pasta? Fried chicken? A triple cheeseburger with French fries? Don't be tempted by the lure of a fast food drive-in or high carb, high calorie frozen TV dinner. Instead, try a skinless chicken breast broiled with fresh steamed vegetables. On the side, have two GG Crispbread to satisfy your desire to munch and crunch. If you love melted cheese, top with a slice of fat-free cheese and slip in the microwave until the cheese melts or pop under the broiler.
